Government:

Washoe County prosecutor named district judge

A prosecutor in the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has been named to succeed retiring District Judge Steven Elliott.

Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Friday he has chosen Elliott Sattler II, 46, of Reno from the nominees submitted by the Commission on Judicial Selection.

Sattler has been with the DA’s office since 1993 and is a member of the Homicide on Call team, a special unit of lawyers qualified to prosecute murder cases.

The two other nominees were private attorneys Lynne Simons and John Springgate, both of Reno.

Elliott has served since 1997 and prior to that was Sparks City Attorney for 18 years.

Saddler will serve until January 2015 and must run for election in 2014.
