Resident leaps from second story of Lakes-area home to escape fire

One person escaped a burning home Thursday night by leaping from the second floor of the residence.

The damage inflicted on the home was about $150,000, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said. The person who jumped from the second-floor window was taken to the hospital as a precaution, and no one else was injured.

The fire, located at the 3100 block of Ocean Port Drive, near Fort Apache and Desert Inn roads, was reported around 5:40 p.m. When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were rising out of the two-story, wood frame house, officials said. Firefighters were able to knock the blaze down in about 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
