GUN SAFETY:

Notice to Arizonans: Leave your concealed weapons at home

Beginning today, Arizona concealed weapon permits will no longer be recognized in Nevada, after a unanimous vote by the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association.

The decision came after the association was notified last month that Arizona had lowered its arms training requirements substantially below Nevada’s, Executive Director Robert Roshak said.

According to state law, other states must have training standards similar to or stricter than those in Nevada for their permits to be recognized.

A Nevada Department of Public Safety audit of Arizona’s concealed weapon training requirements discovered significant changes were made by the Arizona Legislature that lowered the standards.

Roshak said the changes included removing statutory minimum training requirements and statutory marksmanship and judgmental shooting requirements.

The association reviewed the findings and voted Feb. 28 to end recognition of Arizona concealed weapon permits, Roshak said.
