51s take another from Tacoma, just a half-game out of first place

Matt Fox pitched six scoreless innings Sunday to earn the victory for the Las Vegas 51s in a 4-1 win against host Tacoma.

Fox struck out six batters and yielded just three hits, helping the 51s (43-38) win for the third consecutive day against the Rainiers and move to within a half-game of first place behind Tucson in the Pacific Coast League’s Pacific Southern Division.

Las Vegas scored twice in the second and fifth innings.

In the second, Ike Davis led off the inning with a double and scored on Jamie Hoffmann’s RBI double. Later in the inning, Brandon Hicks scored on a double play. In the fifth, Eric Campbell had a two-run double for Las Vegas.

The 51s open a three-game series at Cashman Field starting 7:05 p.m. Monday against the Fresno Grizzlies. The franchise’s popular Fireworks Extravaganza to celebrate Independence Day is after Wednesday’s game, also at 7:05 p.m.
