The officers involved in shooting at a child-pornography suspect Thursday were identified as Sgt. Roderick Hunt and Officer Jay James.

Hunt, 48, has been employed with Metro Police for 23 years and is assigned to SWAT Section. James, 40, has worked at Metro for 13 years and also is assigned to SWAT.

The officers shot at Patrick Malone, 31, while serving a search warrant to him at his home in the Highgate Condominiums at 7100 Pirates Cove St., near Summerlin Parkway and West Tenaya.

The officers had infiltrated his apartment after waiting 15 minutes for him to come out. Once inside, officers opened a bedroom and found Malone pointing a gun at them, according to a Metro arrest report. James and Hunt then fired shots, causing Malone to drop the gun.

No one was struck or injured.

Hunt and James have been placed on routine paid administrative leave while the incident is reviewed.
