Sandoval names interim head of Public Safety

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval on Thursday named Jim Wright, deputy director of the state Department of Public Safety, as interim director to replace Chris Perry, who is retiring.

Wright, who has been deputy director since July 2011, will earn $127,721. He has been with the state since 2006, serving as head of the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Homeland Security Division.

The department supervises the Nevada Highway Patrol, Capitol Police and the state Fire Marshal’s Office, among other divisions and bureau offices.

Jackie Muth will serve as deputy director at a salary of $123,784. Muth has headed the Office of Professional Responsibility that conducts administrative investigations into allegations of misconduct by officers in the department.
