Bicyclist hit by truck, killed north of Jean

A bicyclist was killed Wednesday morning when he was hit by a passing dump truck several miles north of Jean.

The Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the accident at 8:15 a.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard.

A 35-year-old man bicycling southbound was hit a trailer being pulled by a passing dump truck, Trooper Loy Hixson said.

The man was pronounced dead the scene, Hixson said.

The Highway Patrol closed the road in both directions and was diverting traffic to the Sloan interchange while the investigation continues, he said.

Wednesday marked the second fatality in two months on that stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard from Jean to Las Vegas.

Real estate agent Michael Sando, 50, was killed when he lost control of a motorcycle and crashed into a curve on the road in May.
