A Las Vegas man died from unknown causes in a scuba diving incident Saturday morning at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

The victim was diving with a group in the Kingman Wash area, on the Arizona side of Lake Mead, when he surfaced unresponsive, spokeswoman Christie Vanover said. Lake Mead National Park Service Rangers responded about 8:55 a.m. to multiple 911 calls about a diver in distress.

People aboard a bystander boat initiated CPR and took the diver to Hemenway Harbor, where National Park Service emergency personnel provided advanced life support, Vanover said. The man was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m.

The National Park Service and Clark County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death.
