Construction worker falls 150 feet while working on MGM Grand sign

Strip Properties

Real estate investment trusts could become a popular trend among local casino companies if MGM Resorts International, which owns MGM Grand (above), forms one. Already, Caesars Entertainment has asked a bankruptcy judge to allow the company to adopt the structure, and Penn National Gaming formed one for many of its properties, including the M Resort.

A construction worker fell approximately 150 feet from the MGM Grand on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at around 9:40 a.m. near the marquee of the casino, Metro officer Larry Hadfield said. The worker was repairing the MGM sign on the Strip and fell onto nearby landscaping, Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Jon Klassen said.

The construction worker was part of a contracted company assigned to do repairs on the marquee, MGM spokeswoman Yvette Monet said.

When crews responded to the scene, the worker was alive but in critical condition, Klassen said.

The worker was transported to University Medical Center's Trauma Center with undisclosed injuries, Hadfield said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the incident, Hadfield said.
