Man, possibly fleeing wreck, dies in second crash

A man died early Saturday morning after he crashed his Jeep into another car while fleeing a separate collision in North Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas Police responded to the second crash at about 12:30 a.m. on Lake Mead Boulevard outside Texas Station Casino. Officers arrived to find a 37-year-old man dead on the road, North Las Vegas spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Jeep had previously been involved in a minor crash in the parking lot of Texas Station and attempted to flee north on Lake Mead Boulevard, Coon said. The man ran a red light as he exited the parking lot and entered the path of a sedan traveling east on Lake Mead Boulevard.

The collision sent the driver of the Jeep, who was not wearing a seat belt, flying from the car, Coon said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The three occupants inside the sedan were transported to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, Coon said.
