Traffic stop escalates into barricade situation but ends with peaceful surrender

Barricade ends peacefully

A man who barricaded himself in a northeast valley house early this morning has surrendered peacefully, Metro Police reported.

The incident began about 6:30 a.m. when a Metro patrol officer pulled over a driver near Tropicana Avenue and U.S. 95, according to Officer Bill Cassell, a Metro spokesman. As the officer was talking to the driver during the traffic stop, the man drove off. The officer did not give chase, but police subsequently located the vehicle parked at a residence in the 3300 block of Drover Avenue, near North Pecos Road and East Washington Avenue.

When police attempted to contact the man, he barricaded himself in the residence, Cassell said. SWAT officers and crisis negotiators arrived, and around 11:30 a.m. the man surrendered.

There were no injuries reported, and the man was taken into custody, Cassell said. Criminal counts against the man were not immediately specified.
