51s bat around in the ninth, but can’t erase seven-run deficit at Salt Lake

The Las Vegas 51s scored four runs in the ninth inning Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough in a 7-4 loss at Salt Lake.

Las Vegas batted around in its final at-bat, receiving a two-run home run from Matt den Dekker, an RBI double from Wilmer Flores and a run-scoring single from Zach Lutz to score four runs with two outs.

The next two Las Vegas batters reached to load the bases and bring the winning run to the plate. However, Jamie Hoffmann flied out to Salt Lake right fielder Matt Long to end the game. It was Hoffmann’s second out of the ninth — he led off the inning by flying out to Long.

Salt Lake scored three runs in the second to take the lead for good.

Las Vegas returns to Cashman Field at 7:05 p.m. Thursday to take on Tucson. It’s the franchise’s popular Dollar Beer Night.
