Taking a summer vacation? Take extra gas money, as prices continue to rise

The average gas price may have dropped nationwide, but the prices continue to tick upward in the Las Vegas Valley and in Nevada.

The average gas price in Las Vegas increased by 9 cents in June to $3.58 per gallon while Nevada overall saw prices raise to $3.66, a 6-cent increase, according to AAA Nevada spokeswoman Cynthia Harris. North Las Vegas gas prices also increased by 9 cents while Henderson increased by 8 cents.

Although the average price nationwide dropped 15 cents since June, Harris said prices at the pump are expected to rise the rest of the summer, at least in part due to rising crude oil prices as a result of escalating protests in Egypt.

One year ago, the average gas price for Nevada was $3.49 per gallon.
