51s surrender nine-run inning in loss to Fresno

The Las Vegas 51s surrendered nine runs in the sixth inning Monday in dropping the first game of a Pacific Coast League series against visiting Fresno, 14-4.

Eric Campbell had a two-run double for Las Vegas in the loss, but the 51s couldn’t overcome Fresno’s scoring outburst in the sixth. The Grizzlies sent 12 batters to the plate and used a grand slam from Johnny Monell to take a commanding lead.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. The franchise’s popular Fireworks Extravaganza to celebrate Independence Day is after Wednesday’s game, also at 7:05 p.m.
