Utah attorney general in controversy after weeks in office

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's new attorney general was in office for only six days by the time people started calling for his resignation. Republican John Swallow sailed in the position last November with almost 65 percent of the vote and vastly more campaign cash than his Democratic opponent. The 50-year-old Swallow spent the past three years as a top official in the attorney general's office. He was sworn into the top law enforcement position in the state on Jan. 7.   1. Got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.As an officer of the law, Swallow should not have involved himself with hooking up lobbyists and friends. That is totally immoral. Makes you wonder how many people he has bribed and done favors for over his career. Mob lawyer in the making?

  2. Sadly, this is par for the course with our Utah AG's. Swallow's predecessor (Shurtleff) had a too cozy relationship with Johnson as well. But, the press simply has not focused on these problems with our AG's until now. What has changed? That's unknown. But, it's good this elected office is getting more scrutiny. We need it.
