After nearly 15 years in prison, cop exonerated of ex-wife’s murder

A judge has exonerated a former Ohio police captain who has spent nearly 15 years in prison for his ex-wife's murder.

Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge Judy Hunter on Tuesday ordered that 66-year-old Doug Prade (PRAID) be set free based on new DNA test results that prove his innocence.

Hunter could have ordered a new trial for Prade, or found that the DNA results weren't strong enough and allowed his conviction and life sentence to stand.

Margo Prade, a 41-year-old Akron doctor, was found shot dead in her minivan outside her office on Nov. 26, 1997.

Doug Prade, a former Akron police captain, was convicted of aggravated murder, largely based on a bite mark found on his ex-wife's body. There were no witnesses, no fingerprints, and no gun ever was found.
