Ramps around airport to be closed for bridge work

Ramps between the Airport Connector and the eastbound 215 Beltway will be closed overnight Sunday as construction crews work on a bridge expansion project.

Between 7 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, traffic will be diverted away from the northbound ramp — heading off of the eastbound 215 Beltway north toward the airport — and the southbound ramp — heading away from the airport onto the eastbound 215 Beltway.

The westbound beltway ramp to the airport will remain open and serve as a detour. Eastbound beltway traffic will detour via the Warm Springs Road exit and back onto the beltway to use the westbound ramp to the airport tunnel.

Traffic exiting the airport tunnel to the westbound beltway will not be affected.

Traffic headed toward the eastbound 215 Beltway will be detoured to exit at Hidden

Well Road and turn south on Gilespie Street to Warm Springs, where the beltway can be accessed again.

The airport connector bridge is the first of five bridges that will be expanded as part of a federally funded airport connector project.

Construction started this month and is expected to end in January 2014.

Bridges over Paradise Road, Warm Springs Road, Robindale Road and Duck Creek also will be expanded as part of the project.
