Assemblyman Steven Brooks has been detained by police for a psychiatric evaluation after a disturbance at his grandmother's house, Metro Police reported today. Officers were called about 1 p.m. to the residence, in the 8400 block of Westcliff Drive, to investigate a family disturbance. They determined an arrest was not warranted, but following comments Brooks made, decided he needed a medical evaluation to determine whether he was a risk to himself or others. "It was additionally reported Mr. Brooks was exhibiting what was described as bizarre behavior," police said. Police released Brooks to the custody of medical personnel, who transported ...

I do not know what was going on, but I know Assistant Chief Dunn, and I have never known him to lie.
I know most people say Brooks is the bad guy here, and his behavior IS weird. HOWEVER, with Barlow's denial when NLV police went public saying Barlow is the one who reported the threat...something fishy. Atkinson and Kirkpatrick DO have the personalities of someone who would go to any lengths to destroy another they did not like.
Anything is possible, I guess. Don't bury Brooks yet.
His Bio was pretty impressive; however his web site has since been taken down for modifications?
I wonder why he's taking a stroll down Nutter Lane?
Everyone reporting on this story should dig a little deeper into Mr.Brooks background...family court 2006-07, very interesting make sure to check under his wifes name though. and maybe look for restraining order request. and then see if you can find some people who have lived near him. this may paint a picture of someone who has been displaying menacing, abnormal behavior for quite some time. he is not being framed! Also look into his bio claims he makes on his web sites most of which is embelished. look a little deeper and dont be afraid to ask questions!!!
Now another interesting story, Councilman Barlow uses an attorney to change his story and accuse a police officer of making a false statement.
Now that is weird!!!

Kidnapped public offical?

Anyone else feeling real good about this legislative session?
A legal 72 hour hold for evaluation. If it is determined that he needs treatment, I believe he either gives permission or a court order must be obtained.
A true representative of his people
This is one bizarre chain of events that this man is involved in . Maybe a lil thorizine will do some good.
That he's a screwball is clearly evident. But that's par for the course with many in politics and, as we've seen in this case, they are treated much differently than "ordinary" citizens. With creepolas such as Brooks, it's 'kid glove" treatment. Not so much with "ordinary" Joes & Janes. "Separate but equal," though turned upside-down and inside-out, is still very much alive in our society! Particularly for illegals, perverts or politocos!
Who voted for this nut job? How about finding someone from his campaign to comment about this looney tune. Go figure its North Las Vegas
Unclear who Brooks made remarks to. I guess many things can be misconstrued when you take third hand, fifth hand, whatever "information" as fact. Brooks does seem to be acting erratically. Seems he's helped us discover how poorly written so much of the legislation has been. The statute he was charged with seems fatally flawed--seems the threat must have "intent" to force future political activity. Impossible to prove intent and what jury / judge can determine what future political outcome would be intended. FLAWED. So why are we paying LCB staff and attorneys when the results of so ineffective? And some would like the Legislature with faulty processes to remain in session and meet more often? What a waste of time and money.
This type of preferential treatment would not occur were he a Republican.
danutz: the VOTERS of his district voted for him and thus we must believe they support him. I'm not sure many people could withstand conjecture morphed into arrest as a normal day. It does appear Mr. Brooks has reacted differently than many would but are we sure he was even near anyone else when he had the gun? However, I still say something needs to happen to WHOEVER provided the gun.
Perhaps an old experience explains my softening attitude on this: Once upon a time a U.S. attorney assumed a whole lot that didn't happen when a suspect provided an affidavit that his attorney heard / witnessed the suspect SAY that a federal agent had done this and that. The agent HAD NOT DONE IT. But the U.S. attorney mis-read the affidavit and thought the attorney had witnessed something --when the attorney merely said he heard his client say the (fabricated) story. Because of the U.S. attorneys reliance on his mis-reading, the suspect got away with it THAT TIME.
Brooks may be mentally ill, perhaps even unstable....but the way this felony charge came about makes it appear that he is being railroaded by his political enemies. The police can arrest, detain, seek a $100,000 bond for release and take someone to court on a felony charge because someone said they heard him make a threat and they find a gun in his car? So.... anyone who knows a person who owns a gun can falsely accuse him/her and the other guy's like is messed up?
Something does not add up.
Dude is smoking that Katt Williams...
Agree with the railroading, but why is he acting like a caboose?
He should diplomatically stand up and deny the allegations like other political icons.

Tom Collins, Rory Reid, and now this guy. Must be something in the punch they serve to the Clark County Democrats. Or maybe....it's in the brownies!
Frankly I am glad the cops arrested him, even if the charges were trumped up. The alternative could very well have been lose of life, on a scale unimaginable. hats off to metro for doing the right thing.
Welcome to LV " ya it sucks to be stranded on Gilligan's Island!
