Coroner identifies victim of fatal stabbing

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal stabbing on Sunday as Lawrence Velasquez, 35, of Las Vegas.

Velasquez died from multiple stab wounds, the coroner’s office said.

Metro Police officials said 32-year-old Nerio Nava allegedly stabbed Velasquez after what appeared to be a dispute over a drug transaction.

Police had received reports about 3 p.m. of a fight at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Wynn Road. When officers arrived, they discovered Velasquez dead on the ground and another man suffering from a stab wound, police said.

The second victim was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Nava was arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center, where he was booked on counts of murder with use of a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
