Multivehicle pileup sends three to hospital

Updated Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 | 4:41 p.m.

Five-car pileup

A four-vehicle pileup Thursday afternoon on Charleston Boulevard at the 215 Beltway sent three people to University Medical Center, a Nevada Highway Patrolman trooper said.

Trooper Loy Hixson said a Ford Escape exiting the beltway collided with a Lexus traveling west on Charleston. The impact caused the Ford to overturn on the overpass while the Lexus continued south, were it struck a motorcycle and an Acura before coming to rest, Hixson said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue’s heavy rescue squad had to extricate the driver of the Ford. He, plus two other males, the driver of the Lexus and the motorcyclist, were transported to University Medical Center, all with injuries not thought to be life-threatening; the female driver of the Acura was not injured, Hixson said.

No citations had been issued as of 4:30 p.m., he added. The left turn lanes on eastbound Charleston to the beltway continue to be closed, as investigation into the crash continues.
