Teenager dies in rollover accident in Moapa Valley

Updated Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 | 10:55 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy was killed Tuesday after the pickup truck he was driving rolled over near Perkins Field Airport in Moapa Valley.

The driver was traveling southbound around 1:15 p.m. on Airport Road with two other 17-year-old boys, Metro Police said. As the three traveled in a 2006 F-250 Ford pickup, the vehicle went off the paved part of the road. When the driver tried to get back on the road, police said, he overcorrected and lost control. That’s when the truck rolled over, settling on its roof, police said.

The two passengers were able to crawl out of the truck unharmed, but the driver could not. Responding medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The boy’s death was the ninth traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2013. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
