Missed foul shots, poor shot selection and playing with little confidence. That pretty much sums up the UNLV basketball team when it's in a close game, especially the past two weeks. Saturday, the Rebels nearly sunk to a new low in a too-close-for-comfort 76-71 overtime victory against visiting Air Force. Yes, that Air Force. And at home. The same UNLV team some pegged for a deep tournament run at the beginning of the season was lucky to beat one of the Mountain West Conference’s lower-tier teams. Simply unacceptable. Give credit to Air Force for being well coached. They did a great job of keeping the score down.
With that said, the Rebels played poorly tonight. I think a lot of the problems can be placed on Rice for not playing the right guys at the right time. The Rebels had a distinct size advantage in the frontcourt, and they didn't use it enough.
Also, I think Reinhardt by himself was about 75% of the reason why the Rebels almost lost the game, with Dave Rice's poor player rotations being that other 25%.
This isn't a calling for Dave Rice to be fired by any means, but he needs to make adjustments going forward. Also, Reinhardt should be playing about 10 minutes per game less than he currently does. Finally, am I the only one who thought Reinhardt showed terrible body language after he was benched for good?
The second coming of Billy Bayno a great recruiter and a crap coach. Playing against a bunch of of smart midgets the idiot all stars of UNLV nearly lost. A total embarassment at home. At least Sean Marion esacaped from Bayno. Rice is a lousy coach. Time for a contract extension.
Stay tuned for more excuses. Maybe it's time we face facts that we have a couple blue chippers and the rest are just average. There is no shame in just being an 'okay' team. UNLV has had lots of 'okay' teams. Shame on the media for hyping these guys WAY past their potential. So guys, just go have fun. We'll root for you just the same. It will be a relief to not have to figure out more reasons why things aren't going the way we all hoped. Oh we'll. next year will be another opportunity.
And coach, you need to really investigate what it takes to get from a good coach to a great coach. I say that cause I like you and want you to succeed.
I speak for all long-time fans when I say "do your best, that's all we can ask". We no longer expect a deep run into the Big Dance. The media gave us all that hype. Heck we, the true fans, only want you to be able to hold your heads up and do your best..

Bam! Caruso hit it on the head !.. Back in bay is days I scratched my head quite often as to why BYU could routinely find open shots where it looked like their team actually had an offense! Yet the rebels routinely passed the ball around the perimeter frustrated until someone summoned the courage to shoot a contested 3 pointer! When will this team develope a identity on offense... Coach! What the hell kinda offense aRe you running?
As a reminder, UNlV had to go to overtime to beat almost this exact same Air Force team last year ... a team of seasoned seniors versus three freshmen. Also: UNLV's largest lead was nine.
No fire, no passion, and 100% passive thats our head coach Dave Rice, we are in big trouble and need a real coach.....

I agree with the Reinhardt comment above. Reinhardt played like crap and should be benched indefinitely. He's not contributing to the team at all. This is on Rice for keeping him in so long....he needs to keep him out of the game and give minutes to guys who can deliver.

"Pure comedy"? Commentators who actually get paid to analyze the games make the same contention, so laugh all you want from the comfort of the sofa.

Why do we need a new coach? Dave Rice is producing, and the season isnt over... we are at 14-3.

so on a bad day we lose to Oregon, North Carolina, and New Mexico. Some of you all need your heads examined, its not like we lost by 10+ points to a team.
