Updated Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 | 7:10 p.m.

Metro Police discovered a vast marijuana grow house Friday afternoon in the western Las Vegas Valley. It is the second major pot bust in the area in a week. Officers with a search warrant entered a home in the 9600 block of Cathedral Stairs Court near Tropicana Avenue and Fort Apache Road at 2:30 p.m. They found an estimated 500 to 1,000 plants, but no suspects were found at the home, said Metro Officer Jose Hernandez. 1. How sad......

  2. Where is all the homegrown going?

  3. Think of the tax revenue all that wonderful marijuana could bring in if it were legal and regulated. Oh well, we'll just get rid of more teachers to fix the budget. More dangerous gardeners off the street, way to go Nevada!

  4. Its a plant.

If it wasn't illegal people would probably grow it in their backyards or in a greenhouse.

The war on drugs is working out about as well for us as prohibition did.

Drive the price up, so the criminals get involved. Good thinking!

Now, people's rental properties and protected areas up at Charleston are being destroyed because there are big bucks to be made selling a stupid herb.

  5. Chunky says:

He'd gladly pay these growers for legitimate work if they could come over and help the Chunks family get their outdoor vegetable garden producing a better yield of tomatoes, peas, lettuce and other items!

If they can grow $4.5m in pot inside why can't the Chunkster grow more than $1000 worth of produce outside?

That's what Chunky wants to know!

  6. Guess Metro does not need the money they want if they have time for this crap. How is some sick person dying of cancer going to grow their own?? Looks like Washington and Colorado will get more retirees and tourists.

Nevada used to make money on quickie divorce, marriage and gambling, now everyone has it plus legal pot. No wonder the economy is bad, the prudes out at Metro have wrecked it.

  7. They valued the plants from the prior bust at get this. Drum roll please/////// $3,100. per plant!
Now I don't think you can get that many buds off the life of the plant to make $3,100.
