Police investigating early morning shooting in northeast valley

Metro Police are investigating a shooting early Friday on Gaviota Avenue, near East Stewart Avenue and North Pecos Road.

Just before 4 a.m., several calls to 911 reported gunshots on the 3900 block of Gaviota Avenue, police said. When officers arrived, they spotted a vehicle on the side of the road with its driver’s side door open, Metro Officer Jose Hernandez said. After searching near the vehicle, they found a male who had been shot multiple times, police said.

“It appears as though the victim was shot while sitting in the vehicle and then made it out,” Hernandez said.

The victim was transported in serious but stable condition to University Medical Center.

Investigators have not interviewed the victim, and no details were available on any suspects.
