Elderly woman killed in vehicle-pedestrian accident

An elderly woman was hit by a sport utility vehicle and killed Thursday after she tried to cross Decatur Boulevard outside a marked crosswalk, Metro Police officials said.

The accident was reported at 10:21 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Decatur Boulevard, near Vegas Drive. Police said the woman was crossing in the middle of the street when she was hit by an SUV traveling south.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Metro’s fatal accident detail is investigating the incident.

No further details were immediately available.
