Just how radioactive is that nuke fuel the feds want to bury in Nevada? Sandoval wants to know

Gov. Brian Sandoval says he wants to talk to state environmental and nuclear waste officials about the proposed federal shipment of radioactive uranium for burial in Nevada. Sandoval said he has not been briefed by U.S. Energy Department officials about the planned uranium shipment from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee to the Nevada National Security Site for burial in the desert. He said Tuesday he wants to "reach out" to Leo Drozdoff, director of the state Conservation and Natural Resources Department, and Robert Halstead, administrator of the Nuclear Waste Project office. The governor said he questions the level ...

  1. HaHaHa,

Obama sold NV out. I am laughing my rear off at you NIMBY and chicken little types. Guess what... it's HERE!!!

The "concept" of Yucca is alive and well, they just moved the material to a little different location with fewer safeguards.

Obama and Pinky just gave Nevada the finger......I love it. Remember boys and girls...WE WON...hahahahaha

Long Live Yucca!!! what a bunch of fools. We truly got hosed in this deal.

  2. Just like the state of Alaska pays every person annual oil revenue, I want the same for Yucca Mountain. Bring all you can here and get it out of the nuclear power plants throughout this country where there are over a hundred dirty bombs waiting to happen. Pay every Nevada resident an annual check. Stop your complaining and start negotiating.

  3. BCDave, that's my point we blew it. We played politics with this instead of reality. It's here.... We lose.

Well played Obama and Pinky you screwed NV and didn't even give us a reach around.

  4. Notch,

You realize it's just under 900 pounds of Uranium right?? How much higher level do you need.

Low level waste is generally considered to be medical waste..... Not Uranium.

    We got hosed.....plain and simple.

  5. If this came from Oak Ridge it's probably disassembled cold war weapons or power plant material from decommissioned ships. I agree u235 from nuclear power refuels would have a stronger half life but at Yucca I would not have an issue. It's better than storing it in a spent fuel pool in a rad waste building on site.

  6. This is bad stuff

Just as bad as Yucca Mountain

The low level stuff is always buried in New Mexico

Yucca Mountain was being built with multiple barrier for this high level stuff

Now Obama is throwing the stuff in a standard refuse landfill site

It is real close to Las Vegas and must travel trough LV to get there

Yucca is 90 miles away and a rail road was being built to bring it from the north

LOL at all the fools who voted for Obama and Reid to prevent this stuff

  7. I am simply amazed. Southern Nevada people have been fighting to stop this nonsense of the Yucca Mountain Project (YMP), but now there is somehow someway some kind of end around where we STILL end up with nuclear trash.

How did this happen? Who is the rocket scientist that let this occur?

Our State Government people need to get their butts kicked and into action.

    And heads need to roll.

Because everyone can see what is gonna happen.

They get away with this, the politicians outside of Nevada (and even within) will all point fingers and say, oh, okay, Nevada took this junk, so why not take nuclear garbage at YMP? You took this, why is the other trash we want to throw at you any different?

Like I say, our politicians in Nevada need to start waking up and fight.

Because if they don't, political heads are gonna roll.

We will vote out anyone and everyone that participates with this nuclear rodeo. We have no alternative BUT to do that.

  8. Colin, you're cracking me up dude...... It's Obama and Reid that sold us out. Get over it. I love it. The people you think are "protecting" you are using you.

Thanks for your votes Colin...... You've assured Nevadans they will get the shaft in this deal.

  9. OK, put all the US-Nuclear trash to a cellar in Nevada. The consequence will be, that all new Nevada born babies will have three eyes and 12 fingers... as if there were no other states in this country, where almost no people live, like Wyoming, Nebraska, North Dakota ... which idiot chose Nevada? What's next? Califonia? New York?

  10. My house needs to be deposited in Yucca Mountain

  11. NV and Esmeralda County aided by Bobby List have never given up on Nuclear energy waste storage or reprocessing here in NV see>

    2. Radioactive material processing and recycling:
2.1. Generation of radioactive materials for medical purposes, e.g., bone scans.
2.2. Generation of radioactive materials for industrial purposes, e.g., x-ray scans of welding.
2.3. Generation of radioactive materials for research purposes, e.g., for energy, medical.
2.4. Recycling of spent fuel rods from commercial reactors for re-use.
2.5. Recycling of stored radioactive materials from weapons or weapons research for energy
generation, medical, industrial, or research uses.

  12. Esmeralda County Energy Park just one of many economic development projects unknown to the average Esmeralda county citizen or Nevadans"

  13. Stick 1/2 of it under the governors mansion and the other half under the legislature then we will know we are getting are moneys worth with these bumbs.

  14. Let's move the executive mansion to Yucca so he and his family can live out there.
