Man dies in attack after convenience store confrontation

A man who was attacked near a convenience store at Twain Avenue and Swenson Street died Monday night, Metro Police said.

Metro received a call at 5:45 p.m. that a man had been attacked and was incapacitated, said Metro Lt. Dan Zehnder.

Earlier, the victim was in a convenience store where he got into an altercation with the store clerk, who told the customer to leave. The customer then left, crossed the street, and was attacked — possibly beaten or stabbed — by one or more suspects, Zehnder said.

The man who was stabbed died while being taken to University Medical Center.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
