St. Rose Dominican Hospitals has eliminated 100 positions at its three Las Vegas Valley campuses, officials said today. The cutbacks came mostly in supervisory or support positions and not in jobs related to direct patient care. Officials cited costs of the recession, along with government cuts in health care benefits as the reasons for the layoffs. Went to the ER. 2 X-rays, not broken. $2,600.00 total visit. I'm no doctor or hospital administrator but seems like a LOT of money for a couple of X-rays.

Since hospitals are basically corporations and run as corporations, ie to make the bottom line healthy, they do the same thing as corporations do such as laying off people. They have been doing this for years. It has NOTHING to do with Obamacare.

Like all hospitals in the USA, St. Rose engages in cost shifting. A significant portion of the charges for those who have insurance are made to cover those who do not have insurance. Just like any business, all the losses must be covered or you go out of business.
In fact, it is unlikely that any hospital in Nevada collects more than 40% of billings.
With Obama care, almost all Americans will have insurance, and there will be payment for almost every patient treated.
In fact, this is the best thing that has ever happened to most Americans. It is amazing how many who will benefit the most have to be dragged kicking and screaming to this coverage.
So who's going to treat (and pay for) all the health care for the additional millions of illegal invaders that O. has adopted by a stroke of the pen? Any indication that not leaving ER bills hanging is a requirement for a work permit?
The issue is affordable healthcare for all Americans, not another shot at the centuries old xenophobia that some in this country can never give up.
Remember, the number one cause for bankruptcy is inability to afford medical expenses. Consider the cost of that.
Private, for profit hospitals: a great model for enriching shareholders, equipment suppliers, doctors and pharmaceuticals. The rest of us are on our own. And for the racist fools who keep blaming immigrants for hospital problems, I call on hospitals to end this disgrace and finally admit their financial troubles are partially caused by non-payment by underinsured or impoverished citizens. Anyone who knows anything about hospitals knows the percentage of collections they farm off and the ridiculously pathetic contracts they negotiate with these agencies which take their money and then only recover pennies on the dollar. It's not immigration, it's crappy senior management, but you'll never know that because despite the service they provide to the community, as a private entity, they are unaccountable...yet they happily apply for that Gov't funding, don't they.

Many illegals are on Medicaid.
What is dishartening about this is that,St. Rose didn't have the decency to inform those employees they will be losing their jobs before this news article was posted. How awful to find out in the newspaper first!!
The leader has healed the economy, how is anyone laying off? I bet this is some sort of Bush limbaugh faux news hospital. But on a serious note, lot of pain ahead. Keep printing and borrowing, the dollar has lost ground to the sick euro, that is something Mr. Obama. Prepare to short the market it looks a little top heavy.
