About 1,000 students from high schools throughout Southern Nevada participated in the 56th annual Sun Youth Forum on Nov. 20. The students were divided into groups to discuss a variety of topics. A representative was chosen from each group to write a column about the students’ findings. Mathison Clore of Coronado High School writes about issues covered by his group, Around the World. At the Sun Youth Forum, students from high schools throughout the Las Vegas Valley came together to discuss a variety of issues, such as problems in Nevada and the federal government’s foreign policy. There are 3 overriding problems in the world today, among others. These problems are a result of the direct collapse of the world order. The Sun got several right. Here's my list: First: Iran and its enhanced nuclear weapon capability; Two: Syria with the largest storehouse of chemical weapons in the world and its slaughter of Syria innocents over the last 21 months conservatively numbered at 60,000; and Three: North Korea, already nuclear ready and looking to overtake and overrun South Korea. Nevedan students and the Sun should have tied the collapse of the world order with the sequestration of the Pentagon budget and the USA military. The two: Sequestration, which guts our military at the very time we can least afford it, and the collapse of the world order are stupendously monumental. The two threaten not only the very existence of the USA but the entire world. Sadly, politicans are kicking both problems down the road at the expense of people here in the US and worldwide. If asked to add a 4th problem to the list, it would undoutedly be China and its evil eyes on Japan.
