Careless smoking blamed for fire that killed 2 dogs

Careless smoking led to a fire in North Las Vegas that killed two dogs, North Las Vegas fire officials said. Units from the North Las Vegas, Clark County, and Las Vegas fire departments responded about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday to the home at 2134 Crawford St., officials said. Firefighters could see smoke coming from the house and were able to extinguish the blaze within 10 minutes, officials said. The single-family home was destroyed, and damage was estimated at $142,000, fire officials said. The Red Cross is assisting three men displaced by the fire.

  1. Poor dogs.

  2. Smokers are dumb. With all the knowledge we currently have about the nasty effects of life long smoking on your health and they still choose to partake..there's only 2 conclusions. They are dumb or they don't care.

Do the patch, get medication or do what most do..have the fortitude to quit.

  3. all dogs go to heaven.

  4. RE: TomD- smoking is a "dumb' habit but how dare you call the smoker dumb. Guess you don't have any addictions and life is perfect. You obviously have no clue. Yes, I am offended.

  5. 2 poor dogs dead, and entire house burned to the ground. All because someone couldn't be responsible. Smoking goes beyond the health hazards for the individual or even others through second hand smoke. You're holding fire in your hands! Things that are flammable will burn, and you're constantly waving a torch around your surroundings. Doesn't matter if it's a cigarette, a candle, or even a stove. You're working with fire and need to be careful. Smokers should be doubly aware of this since they're always running around and lighting things on fire in their mouths. If not for flame-retardant clothes and bedding you really have to wonder how many more deaths we would have due to careless people such as this.

  6. It's a terrible habit. Most smart people gave up the habit many years ago. If you still smoke today with everything that is known about the ill effects on your health...again, you're dumb or don't care. If you are in the process of breaking that habit and succeed, you can be upgraded from dumb to normal. How's that?

It's an awful habit for your health and in general a dirty, disgusting habit..offensive to those around you who are subjected to breath it in. Quit Ida.

  7. Another good reason to quit smoking.

  8. Makes me NOT want to give to the redcross since they are helping someone who caused their own problem. Feel bad for the dogs as they certainly did not deserve what they got. Always drives me crazy when I see smokers toss burning butts out their car windows, tossing them on the street, or having any other disregard for others with their trash. Not hard to figure out that it is burning leaves and paper and will cause other things to butn too. Should have to foot the bill for the firefighters too. Not like this was an "accident" it was stupidity.
