$8.3 million in funding cuts loom over CCSD in sequestration

The Clark County School District would lose an estimated $8.3 million in federal funding should looming budget cuts – known as the sequester – go into effect Friday, according to the U.S. Education Department. For months, school districts across the nation have been left in budgetary limbo as Congress deliberates a solution to sequestration, across-the-board spending cuts to federal programs and departments to reduce the national debt. Clark County – the nation's fifth-largest school district – receives $90.3 million in Title I funding, which goes to public schools with a high population of children from low-income households. 1. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

  2. And so the Democrat Political terrorisum goes on and on and on.

  3. Mr. Perkins.

What was it called the SEVEN times the debt level was raised during the last administration?

  4. I'm perfectly comfortable with these cuts. Bring it on.

  5. Guess the democrats are getting what they asked for. Maybe they should think a bit before they make promises they do not intend to honor.

  6. Some deals will be made, it is doubtful all cuts will ever be done.. the worst is some parents will have to provide lunch for their kids, something they do when school is not in session anyway. The free and low cost lunch deal made it easy for those parents, but in the end it is the parents responsibility to feed their kids not the school system. My mom made a lunch everyday I took to school, it can be done..

  7. On March 1 of 2013, thousands of Clark County school children will starve and go without food and hundreds of teachers will loose their jobs? This all "BS", we are talking about a reduction in spending of less than 3%. If these programs are so important then CCSD needs to reduce or cut other programs to make up for the shortfall.. Families cut their budgets and spending every month depending on how many hours a month they work, if they can do so should government! Sequestration was an idea that came from President Obama and the White House and was crafted so as to cause as much pain as possible. Dumb Republicans and Dumb Democrats passed the bill and the president signed it in to law almost two years ago. Simple solution, pass legislation to allow departments to transfer funds between accounts and fund what is important..

  8. VegasLee: I didn't like that much better. The repellicans aren't much better than the demon-rats. Political terrorism spans both parties.

  9. The last administration? Hmmmmm! Obama was the last and present administration. The Dems wanted this and Obama signed it into law and now he is demonizing the repubs.....Hypocrisy!

Bring it on the sky will not fall. The kids won't starve, the police and fire will still get paid.

    Lie, lie, lie....Typical

  10. Can't wait to see what the Sun writes when REAL cuts have to happen. To bad Bob Woodard can't write a piece for this newspaper then maybe we'll get some truths.

  11. Trust me education is loser of funding. Money is transferred to jails full of illegal immigrants.
Return illegals to their own country.
