A woman was killed and a man injured when they were hit by a pickup truck Sunday while walking on a sidewalk along Valley View Boulevard, Metro Police reported.
The driver of the truck was arrested on counts of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.
The truck was headed east on Sahara Avenue before it made an abrupt right turn onto Valley View and began heading toward oncoming traffic, police said.
The truck then drove onto the sidewalk and hit a 52-year-old Las Vegas woman and a 39-year-old man, police said.
The woman was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The man suffered moderate injuries, officials said.
After the collision, the driver, Jason Manuma, 33, tried to escape, police said. He was caught about 2.5 miles from the intersection and arrested after failing a field sobriety test, police said.
The fatality was the 22nd traffic death in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. Police said the incident remains under investigation.

Another part of why people shouldn't feel safe in LV.........walking in public will get you killed at no fault of your own.
