Nobody expected an outcome this lopsided. Not even the players in the game. Bishop Gorman High senior guard Trey Kennedy knew his team was comfortably ahead Friday against Centennial in the Division-I high school state basketball game at the Orleans Arena, but wasn’t closely following the score. Then, he looked up. Gorman, which in three previous meetings this year against Centennial trailed late in the fourth quarter, was leading by more than 30 points. Not only did Gorman win its fourth state championship in five years, the Gaels convincingly beat an opponent that was expected to give its fits in ...

The Gorman coaching staff deserves credit for the game plan and putting their players in a position to win. Congratulations Gaels.
Great game Gaels! Congratulations! You deserve it!
BG has a great multi-million dollar facility that will continue to aid in their illegal recruitment of players. When will CCSD wake up kick BG out of the NIAA? They need to play an independent schedule and play other teams that can recruit like they do (Findlay, Oak Hill, Mater Dei) to put them on an equal playing field. Congrats to all of the public schools and their 500 sq. ft weight rooms without whirlpools, tracks, and saunas.
Instead of punishing Gorman for their success why not open up the public schools to choice and let them recruit and compete with Gorman. Also compete against each other in education as well as sports, you know, capitalism. I realize a lot of logistics would need to be worked out, i.e busing. Maybe a public school or two could even out recruit BG and end their athletic dominance. Maybe we could develop several schools that can compete nationally
lot of schools have open enrollment where kids can go to whatever school they want why clark county doesnt do this like others in the usa i have no idea if the clark county school system was better and didnt waste there money on all the administration and there salaries they could have a school like gorman . maybe then the wynn's,the gaughans, and feriita familes would donate money .if i had children they would be going to gorman high school where it is better and safer
Didn't the Fertitas Stations just come out of bankruptcy last yr? Maybe someone can explain to me how a CO can owe about $6B and it it reduced to about $2B and still retain the Casinos? Isn't America wonderful?
Once again Bishop Gorman shows why they are an outstanding school with exceptional quality students that want to be there for a great education.
Any money donated to Bishop Gorman comes from the Frank and Victoria Fertitta Foundation and has nothing to do with Frank III. or Lorenzo or Station Casino or the UFC, beanhead.
Bigfish: That makes too much sense. Government never makes sense.

It wouldn't change the situation very much. An individual High School coach wouldn't have the resources to match Gorman's recruitment team. If you give them resources then it takes resources from another program. Principals would be extremely reluctant to invest in basketball recruitment at the expense of programs that affect test scores.
Gorman doesn't have that internal pressure from CCSD, the school or the principal.
The alternative solution would be to have two or three sports magnet high schools in CCSD. That would concentrate resources and recruitment in the same way other magnet schools work.
