An ex-convict fugitive died overnight of wounds he received in a gunfight with a regional criminal apprehension team chasing him through a Las Vegas neighborhood.
FBI Agent Patrick Turner said Wednesday that an FBI agent was shot once in the chest and once in the back during the exchange of gunfire. But he was protected by a ballistic vest.
The agent was treated and released from a hospital overnight.
Neither the FBI agent nor the fugitive has been identified.
The shooting happened about 3 p.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood northeast of downtown Las Vegas.
Turner tells The Associated Press the fugitive had been sought on a felony armed robbery warrant, and authorities believe he was also responsible for several carjackings in the Las Vegas area in the last several months.

good news
According to the Review Journal, the dead man was an illegal from Nicaragua who didn't want to be deported, so he ran.
If we want to have a serious discussion about immigration reform then the issue of illegal criminals must be seriously addressed. We can't afford political grandstanding and posturing on this issue.
