Metro Police are putting a second officer in patrol cars as a safety precaution while the search continues for a former Los Angeles cop suspected of killing three people and targeting law enforcement, authorities said.

The focus of the search for Christopher Dorner has been the area of Big Bear Lake, Calif., where the ex-officer’s burned-out pickup truck was discovered on Thursday. But Dorner owns a two-story house about nine miles southwest of the Las Vegas Strip, at 724 Loughton St., according to authorities and court records.

Metro officers have been seeking any known friends or acquaintances of Dorner in an attempt to develop leads, police said.

SWAT teams, meanwhile, served a warrant Thursday at his Las Vegas home. No weapons were found, but FBI Agent Patrick Turner said other items discovered will be used to help in the manhunt.

Dorner is suspected of shooting a couple Sunday in a parking garage at their condominium in Irvine, Calif., police said. The woman was the daughter of a retired police captain who had represented Dorner in disciplinary proceedings that led to his firing from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities also suspect Dorner used a rifle to ambush two Riverside police officers Thursday on routine patrol, killing one and seriously wounding the other.
