Coroner IDs burglary suspect shot dead by elderly homeowner

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the burglary suspect shot and killed in the break-in of a 72-year-old man’s home as 27-year-old Anthony Guerra.

Metro Police had received a call Monday around 7:50 a.m. from a man indicating three burglars had entered his home at the 2300 block of Westwind Road in northwest Las Vegas. Police said the man retrieved his handgun and fired one shot, striking Guerra and causing the suspects to flee.

One suspect tried to escape in a vehicle, but slammed into an arriving squad car and was arrested, police said. The second suspect was able to escape on foot. Guerra was found dead in the backyard of the man’s home.

He died from a gunshot wound to the chest, the coroner’s office said.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges are expected to be brought against the homeowner, police said.
