J. PATRICK COOLICAN:

Why is a Henderson councilman sidling up to an attorney being sued by the city?

The city of Henderson sued developer Chris Milam last week, accusing him of promising a pro sports complex if the city could help deliver to him cheap federal land even though all along he was planning to flip the land to residential developers for an easy profit. The city describes a classic bait-and-switch. Wouldn’t it be cool if you helped me get some land to host an NBA team in Henderson? Oh, never mind, how about I use that land for some tract homes? Henderson isn’t just taking on Milam, however. The city's lawsuit also targets people who are alleged ...

  1. I would get rid of the whole bunch and reelect a completely new slate of candidates.

  2. This whole sports complex thing is a joke. How could are elected officials be so naive? Our local politicians are as "under the influence" of campaign donors and lobbyists as every other politician in our democracy.

  3. They are not victims they are co-conspirators

  4. It about time the FBI stepped in to do a "sting" like they did before, years ago with the Las Vegas City Council.

    It is know Henderson's turn.

  5. One hand washing the other.........while looking the other way.

  6. Funny how people who go on 2 year recruiting commitments to foreign countries can be so naive about local politics. Makes you wonder if they are suitable for public office.

  7. Comment removed by moderator. Inappropriate

  8. All candidates requesting financial assistance from non reputable sources, or catering to lobbyists on the eve of elections should be disqualified.

  9. That's Henderson for ya ' if you're not in the circle of powers to be you get nowhere in Henderson. A few years ago George Knapp was doing a story on how certain attorneys had a lot of power in the way things were handled at the City of Henderson but the story was suddenly stopped and swept away. Hmmmm I wonder who killed that one. Kudos to you Coolican for writing this story but I'd be worried about my job if I were you.

  10. Nice piece of investigative reporting, Patrick. Unfortunately at least some Henderson City Council members appear to be corrupt. Being old, I can actually remember when there were politicians dedicated to doing the right thing. I guess those days are gone forever.

  11. fedup2here - good point. Get rid of these guys and refuse to do business with this attorney and this (I'm not running) councilperson - as suggested by NVfisherman. These scandals are getting old.

  12. Great article!

We can do something about this; we can vote. Primary Election Day is April 2, and early voting starts March 16.

Erin Lale, candidate for Henderson City Council.

  13. Doesn't anyone on the Henderson City Council read the RJ or do any research?

This should have been a red flag!

  14. With all fairness and respect I don't understand the author's intent. he explains that the mayor and 5 councilmen have accepted campaign contributions from this individual and then he makes Marz his target. Why?

  15. There's lots of Corruption with the little sister city of Las Vegas-Why is anyone so surprised did you forget Hiring Qualifications were lowered so the Sen Reid's Son could be hired as Henderson's Attorney-DUH!

  16. Los Angeles Home Builder KB Homes closed on homes with known defects prior to homeowner disclosure. Defects, defects, defects!!! Google TheKBHome or go to http://TheKBHome.com for more details and for tools to help you get resolve with your KB Homes warranty claims.
