More than 300,000 people are expected to ring in the New Year in Las Vegas. Because many of them will be flocking to the glittery Las Vegas Strip, the Nevada Department of Transportation is restricting vehicle access to Las Vegas Boulevard from Sahara to Tropicana avenues.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Interstate 15 southbound and northbound on-ramps and off-ramps at Spring Mountain Road, Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue will close.

I-15 will be open at Sahara Avenue and Russell Road. The right lane on eastbound Sahara will be closed to allow for a turn lane from the off-ramp at I-15 northbound to Sahara eastbound.

Ramps will reopen beginning at 3 a.m. Thursday, with all ramps open by 6 a.m. It’s possible those times could change at the discretion of officials with the Regional Transportation Commission's Joint Operations Center in the Freeway Arterial System of Transportation.

Other road restrictions include:

Las Vegas Boulevard northbound at Mandalay Bay.

Las Vegas Boulevard southbound at Sahara Avenue.

Tropicana Avenue westbound at Koval Lane.

Tropicana Avenue eastbound at Industrial/Dean Martin Drive.

Flamingo Road eastbound at Valley View Boulevard.

Foot-traffic limitations:

Escalators at Tropicana Avenue and the Strip will shut down from 2 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday. Visitors can use the stairs or the elevators. Before midnight, the stairs and escalators will be barricaded and elevators stopped; bridge access will be limited.
