A woman died early today after being struck by a pickup truck on Boulder Highway, Henderson authorities reported.

The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway near Galleria Drive. Police said the stretch of the highway where the accident occurred is unlit, and the woman was not in a crosswalk.

The accident remains under investigation, but the 55-year-old driver of the pickup was not arrested or given a citation at the scene. A preliminary investigation also indicated that speed did not appear to be a factor in the accident, Henderson Police said.

Police said the woman appeared to be in her 50s. No other information was available.

Boulder Highway was closed for about four hours while investigators conducted the investigation.

So far this year, 253 people have been killed in motor vehicle crashes on Nevada roadways, with eight of those deaths occurring in Henderson. The woman’s death was the third traffic-related pedestrian fatality in Henderson this year.
