Las Vegas Wranglers captain Geoff Paukovich is denied by Idaho Steelheads goalie Pat Nagle during a 4-1 Las Vegas loss on Dec. 28, 2013.

The Las Vegas Wranglers recorded a season-best 50 shots on goal tonight against the visiting Idaho Steelheads, but didn’t score until the last minute of a 4-1 defeat.

Adam Hughesman tallied for the Wranglers with 55 seconds remaining to prevent the Idaho shutout. Still, the Steelheads swept the two-game weekend series, handing the Wranglers (8-16-3) their sixth straight defeat.

Idaho led 2-0 entering the third period, but quickly doubled their lead with a pair of goals on the power play. With a 5-on-3 advantage, Idaho scored at the 2:54 mark of the period, and then again 50 seconds later in putting the game out of reach.

The Wranglers return to the ice New Year’s Eve at the Utah Grizzlies. They return to the Orleans Arena at 2:05 p.m. Jan. 1 for the Indoor Winter Classic.
