PHOENIX — A plane from Phoenix to Sacramento was diverted to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas when a bathroom smoke alarm activated without an apparent cause.
The Arizona Republic reports that a smoke alarm sounded in the back lavatory of a Southwest Airlines plane about an hour into the flight Monday evening.
Southwest Airlines spokesman Dan Lendson says the flight was diverted as a precaution to Las Vegas after someone who trains pilots and happened to be a passenger on the plane determined the alarm had been tripped.
That person found no traces of smoke.
Passengers exited the plane in Las Vegas and boarded another plane to Sacramento.
