Letter to the editor:

A case for personal responsibility

I would really be interested in Harry Reid’s take on the study mentioned in the Dec. 19 Heard Elsewhere column, “How to combat income inequality.”

What a novel idea; instead of giving a person a lifetime of fish, give them a fishing pole and teach them how to fish! It’s too bad our politicians won’t pay more attention.

I wonder if those in favor of increasing the minimum wage realize that the majority of customers of those establishments that would need to raise prices probably are middle- and low-income people who aren’t exactly “in tall cotton” themselves.

I think the focus should be on teaching more personal responsibility. Don’t have more kids than than you can support, learn English so you can do your part in educating those kids and only spend on essentials until you land that good-paying job.

Of course, unless the government gets on board, the above is worthless.
