Nevadans scrambling to beat Obamacare deadline

CARSON CITY — Navigators and enrollment assistants are reporting long lines and heavy phone traffic as Nevadans try to sign up for health insurance on the last day to receive coverage effective Jan. 1.

Andres Ramirez with the Ramirez Group in Las Vegas says his office is swamped, with people lining up seeking help and phones ringing nonstop.

Monday at 11:59 p.m. is the deadline for people to sign up for health coverage under the federal health care reform bill for coverage to take effect in the New Year. Policies selected must be paid for by 6 p.m. Friday.

Nevada Health Link officials say paid enrollments have doubled since late last week to about 6,000.
