Marijuana dispensaries not expected to open for months after law takes effect

CARSON CITY — A Nevada law allowing medical marijuana dispensaries takes effect April 1, but licenses to sell and grow the drug probably won’t be issued until months later, a state official said today.

Marla McDade Williams, deputy administrator of the state Division of Public and Behavioral Health, said the agency needs to hire more staff and that it could take up to four months to accept, review and approve license applications.
