Parker Semin, a 2011 Arapahoe High School graduate, prays at a makeshift memorial bearing the name of wounded student Claire Davis, who was shot by a classmate during school three days earlier in an attack, in front of Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo., Monday, Dec. 16, 2013.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — A memorial is growing for the 17-year-old girl critically wounded when she was shot by another student at her suburban Denver high school.

Well-wishers were praying and leaving notes for Claire Davis at a fence at the school on Monday.

White cups spelled out "Pray 4 Claire (Heart)," while some left stuffed animal horses because of the senior's love of the animals.

Authorities say Karl Pierson shot her in the head at random on Friday soon after entering the school armed with a shotgun, a machete and Molotov cocktails. They think he was looking for a teacher with whom he had a dispute.

A coroner on Monday confirmed that the gunman killed himself as a resource officer closed in.

Classes at the school have been canceled until January.
