Body discovered

Police on Monday discovered the body of an elderly man who was shot dead inside his home just west of downtown Las Vegas.

Officers were called to the home in the 2800 block of Alta Drive near Rancho Drive at about 1:45 p.m. Monday for a welfare check on the man, Metro Police said.

The victim, whom Clark County Coroner’s Office officials identified as 70-year-old Charles Thomas Deishley, had suffered a gunshot wound. Police said evidence in his home indicates that someone may have broken in, though it was not clear late Tuesday whether the intrusion occurred before or after the man died.

Coroner’s officials are still investigating the cause of the man’s death.

Police did not say how long the man had been dead inside his home.

Officials urge anyone with information about the shooting to call Metro’s homicide division at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
