Standoff

A suspect in a California slaying has surrendered to police after barricading himself in a Las Vegas apartment.

Metro Police say William Gardner, 30, walked out of the unit a little after 1 a.m. Tuesday, about seven hours after the standoff began at the Camden Point Apartments on East Tropicana Avenue.

Authorities say another man, a woman and the woman's child also came out of the apartment and appeared to be unharmed. Metro officials said Gardner and the woman, Brittany Ulmer, 24, initially refused to walk out but the other man surrendered.

SWAT officers were talking with Gardner and Ulmer to coax them out.

Gardner was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a felony warrant for the outstanding murder charge. Ulmer was also arrested and charged with obstructing a public officer.

Police had initially described the incident as a "hostage situation.”
