Woman taken to hospital after 3 pit bulls attack

Updated Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 | 1:08 p.m.

Three pit bulls attacked a woman Monday night, leaving her with injuries that Metro Police described as moderate to major.

Police responded to reports of the attack about 5:50 p.m. in the 4700 block of Mountain Valley Road, near McLeod Drive and Tropicana Avenue.

The woman was walking her dogs when three roaming pit bulls attacked her and one of her dogs, said Jason Allswang, chief of code enforcement for Clark County Animal Control.

The woman was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

Animal Control took all three dogs into custody and was working to determine the owner and why the animals attacked, Allswang said.

Allswang encouraged dog owners to keep their animals confined by leash or in a backyard. He also noted that the dogs were not neutered, which is against county requirements and can make an animal more aggressive.

Animal Control and Metro were investigating the incident.
