Although the emergence of gun-free zones does not completely eliminate shootings, as pointed out in the letter “Gun-free zones don’t save lives,” it does reduce the number of incidents that happen yearly.
Keeping firearms illegal from such areas as schools, airports, and businesses greatly reduces the chances of these mass killings from happening. Arming a teacher (even a trained Marine) is no guarantee to stop a shooting from happening.
As long as there are people like James Holmes (the Colorado movie theater shooter), there will continue to be incidents similar to this one. So the feeling that gun-free zones don’t save lives is completely false.
