Traffic Accidents:

Coroner identifies two men killed in scooter, motorcycle accidents

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified two men who died in separate crashes Monday afternoon.

Robert Roeder, 73, died in the first crash, which happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Durango Drive.

Metro Police said Roeder, of Las Vegas, was driving a motorized scooter on Charleston Boulevard when a 2006 Kia Sorento entered the intersection and turned left in front of him. Roeder’s 2005 Suzuki scooter struck the front of the Kia, ejecting him.

Roeder was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

The second fatal accident happened about three hours later.

A motorcycle driven by 30-year-old Fredrick Pete slammed into the back of a 2005 Toyota 4Runner on Tropicana Avenue, just west of Paradise Road, police said. The accident happened at 4:55 p.m.

Witnesses told police that Pete was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic just before he crashed.

Pete was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he later died.

The collisions were the 64th and 65th fatal traffic accidents in Las Vegas so far this year.
